April 2019 Napowrimo Day 26

Write a poem that repeats.

I cried on that long drive when I couldn’t forget him
thought I was the only one broken from unrequited love
but her voice came on the radio
I cried on that long drive when she helped me forget him and I knew I wasn’t the only one

I cried on that long drive when I applied to accomplish a dream and
fear made me believe I would fail
but her voice filled my speakers
I cried on that long drive when she helped me believe I was fearless

I cried on that long drive when I was scared to deliver a speech
and I thought my voice wasn’t worth being heard
but I heard her voice
I cried on that long drive when she told me now was the time to speak

I cried on that long drive when I couldn’t understand why
and I tried to repress my darkest emotions
but I heard her words filled with honesty
I cried on that long drive when she let me see it was okay to feel in every color

I cried on that long drive when the world threw rocks and shame
and I lacked the strength to pick myself up
but I heard her on repeat
I cried on that long drive when she helped me shake off the dust and rise again

I cried on that long drive when another one turned into a frog
thought it was my fault I’d never find true love
but I heard her evolution, heard her become stronger
I cried on that long drive as the growing pains stretched me, too

And I cried this morning on my long drive to work
when I heard her new song on the radio
because she’s always been the soundtrack
reminding me
I’ve got to keep loving me
for being me
